The 7th Annual Africa Hospital Expansion Summit

John Wales, the Area Sales Manager for LINET MEA, attended the summit to show off the features of the Multicare bed and the Sprint stretcher.

This event is where government officials, investors, operators, architects, health bodies, NGO`s & contractors meet with medical device suppliers, technology & service vendors, distributors, consultants, banks and regulatory bodies. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of healthcare in Africa.

Africa has made considerable progress in improving their health outcomes, despite all the different challenges encountered by the countries. Indicators such as life expectancy and infant mortality are improving by the day and reflect the efforts towards a healthier population.

However, there is still a lot to do, since healthcare access in Africa is still constrained by criteria such as the patient’s income or location. The main challenges of African hospitals are focused on financing, finding funds for the projects and equipment, and on supplying those materials without damaging the budget.

Countries in the East Africa region are taking the lead in restructuring the African Health System. For example, Uganda is carrying out very interesting projects like the rehabilitation of hospitals in Kiboga and Bugiri, a new Intensive Care Unit for Entebbe Hospital and the construction of a new International Specialized Hospital in Lubowa. The Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda recently purchased 45 Multicare beds from LINET for their new ICU unit.
